If you're familiar with both the Windows and Mac version of Dragon, you know that the Mac version is missing some functionalities seen in its Mac counterpart.  One of the most obvious differences is the lack of a robust set of Dragon functions which can be assigned to a keyboard "hot-key".  We have found the inability to easily program a button on a hand-held USB microphone in a "push to talk" method to be a particular problem, since such behavior makes it so easy to quickly and cleanly control the microphone.

Using a couple of free (or almost free) utilities, we have discovered a way to fairly simply add press-to-talk functionality to a key, key-combination, or button on a USB device.  This can be used with both Dragon Dictate and with the cloud-based dictation program built into the Mac OS.
